Karankawa were a tribe of Native Americans living exclusively along the Texas coast.  They were known to be tall, able warriors.  Karankawa were especially adept at hunting and fishing the coastal bays and estuaries along the Texas middle coast.  The Karankawas ultimately fell victim to rapid American colonization and direct exterminatory warfare. To the end of their existence, these coastal people retained their hunting, fishing, and gathering culture.  The stone hook in our logo is a Karankawa hook discovered along the Texas Gulf Coast.

Karankawa Lure Co.

Karankawa lure company

So What's With the Goofy Name?

After thirty years of fishing for tarpon with artificial lures, the founder of the Karankawa Lure Company is committed to bringing the finest lures to saltwater fishing.

Our first generation of break-way tarpon lures brings science and technology to the sport, giving you the best opportunity to catch more tarpon.  As we develop new tarpon lures and other saltwater jigs, we intend to continue to use science to help you catch more fish.

The break-way lures produced by Karankawa Lure Co. are not intended to be used in a manner that would snag or floss fish.  We condemn snagging of tarpon under any circumstance.  If trolled or cast properly, our break-away jigs are an effective method of catching tarpon.  They attract tarpon and draw aggressive strikes.  We have video (click here) of tarpon chasing and eating our jigs to prove it !!

NOTE:  These jigs are not legal in Boca Grande Pass, Florida.  Always check your local regulations before using our products.
